We (my wife and I) have the entire lodge reserved for my group.
(Female anglers are welcome!!)
This is a “hosted” trip thru The Fly Shop.  So, as a representative of the shop, me being on the trip means that the lodge will be rolling out the red carpet for my group.  There’s no doubt they’ll do everything possible to make our group happy – that’s how it goes on a hosted trip.
I’ll be there to help my clients with casting problems, knot tying, gear set-up, give advice on anything, I usually give away a bunch of flies, and I’ll be able to fish with everybody at least a day or two during the week.
I’ve been there and I’ve done that. The place is awsome.  Bonefish mecca of the Pacific. Not to mention the multiple species available - and of course, HUGE GIANT TREVALLY.

So, the dates are set – MARCH 5 – 12, 2013.

The place we stay is “The Villages” -  the boats are less than 150 ft. from the lodge waiting to take you out every day.
Yes, they use boats, not trucks (like the other operation).

Check out a few pix from 2010 on my website !!

And I do plan on spending some time in Hawaii either on the way there or on the way back.  Lots to do in Hawaii…. including chasing HUGE bonefish with Phd’s.

Most of my travel is kind of last minute… finding good deals… stress levels high, got to get outta here … just back from being cold in Ak for 4 months…. etc…

Not this time.  I’m starting to plan for next Feb/Mar.  2013.   World famous Christmas Island is the destination, and bonefishing is the reason.  Well, that and the big GT’s.
This will be my second time hosting a trip to The Villages on Christmas Island.  There is plenty of space, and plenty of time to plan, so if you’re ready for a new addiction, call me. We’ll talk about it.

You'll see this a bunch !!

So, winter finally arrived… http://lowersactrout.com/blog/2012/03/30/so-winter-finally-arrived/ http://lowersactrout.com/blog/2012/03/30/so-winter-finally-arrived/#comments Fri, 30 Mar 2012 16:30:51 +0000 Administrator http://lowersactrout.com/blog/?p=313 Continue reading ]]> It’s been cold and wet and windy.    On the tolerable days I’ve been out, and fishing has been pretty darn good.  Planning to fish again in the next 48  hours.  Can’t deal with being home for long.  If I hear or see one more thing about Tebow, I’m going to vomit violently.  Has there ever, in the history of time, been so much hype over a quarterback who sucks so bad ?? I mean, really, look at the numbers. Not even a 50% completion ratio. He’s ranked down by “sucky”.
Seriously ??  And not much spoken about Hienz Ward.  Over ONE THOUSAND completions. Over a decade with the same team.  Countless records set. And he retired last week.
I’d say that’s more news than some crappy rookie 2nd stringer going to the Jets.

And WTF is up with this “19 kids and counting” shit ?? I mean, really ?? Are you so selfish that you have 20 kids ?  Thanks a lot for helping deplete our planet.  Thanks for that much more crap in our sewers and that much more garbage in the landfills.
Somebody tie that woman to a doctors table and put a Perfection Loop in her tubes !!! Or cut off his “Thingamobbers”.
Just make it stop.  Please.

Anyhow, you can see I’ve been watching the news a little bit….  if you haven’t, now you know.   Too many kids for a bass-akward family, extreme hype over a crappy QB, and the final four.  That’s the news this week.  Oh, and a huge lottery.

Fishing is still pretty decent, but no chance of big caddis hatches and dry fly action in this crap.  Wind and rain with dark skies has been the norm for three days now. One or two more days, and we’ll be back to normal.
Normal being mid-60′s to 70′s and sunny – pretty rare for February.
The little bit of  foul weather has given me some good ’down time’ to work on the chebby.  Gave her a new Edelbrock intake and a 600cfm Eddy carb for our twentieth anny.

We’re in March as of today, so get ready for some good springtime action on local rivers – unless heavy rains for extended periods of time show at some time on another.   The Pit, Upper Sac, and Lower Sac should all fish well – all spring.
Try a brown Rubberlegs on the Upper Sac this and next month !
I’ll be tryin’ to get out as much as possible – unless gas hits $8 a gallon !

What not to say…. http://lowersactrout.com/blog/2012/02/13/what-not-to-say/ http://lowersactrout.com/blog/2012/02/13/what-not-to-say/#comments Mon, 13 Feb 2012 15:55:10 +0000 Administrator http://lowersactrout.com/blog/?p=307 Continue reading ]]> If/when you hire me , or any guide, there’s one question you don’t want to ask in the morning at the ramp while the boat is being launched.   Some questions I answer are not the most intelligent, and some are way too technical and over-thought out, but there’s one question I cringe at, each and every time I hear it.  It’s not just that the question is completely off the charts when it comes to “dumb questions”, but it’s close.  I usually mumble under my breath, “Seriously!?!?” before trying to come up with an answer that doesn’t insult the person inquiring.
For absolute beginners, it’s somewhat legit and I almost expect it. Especially from those who “don’t get outta the cubicle much”.   But when I get a guy who talks about his collection of flies, his fly fishing history and past, and then he whips out a couple of Winston Rods…. this is one sentence that should never exit his mouth. Ever.
Brace yourselves…..

“So, how deep is the river?”

Take a moment and think about this.  There is no answer.
If you don’t believe me, go to a stream or river. Stand on the bank with your toes one inch from the water.  Take one big step into the river.  How deep is it ??  Now take 10 more steps out into the river. How deep is it now ?
Walk downstream a few hundred feet and repeat.

Thus, you have now seen the light.

T-shirt weather… http://lowersactrout.com/blog/2012/01/06/t-shirt-weather/ http://lowersactrout.com/blog/2012/01/06/t-shirt-weather/#comments Fri, 06 Jan 2012 18:33:20 +0000 Administrator http://lowersactrout.com/blog/?p=305 Continue reading ]]> Actually, it’s more like No Shirt weather.  Saw anglers drifting on the Lower Sac yesterday – going shirtless.
This has to be the warmest December/January we’ve ever had.  Daytime temps have been near 70*F most days.  It’s been a nice change.
But we do need rain. We’re less than 20% of normal rainfall.
I’m sure we’ll get hit hard eventually.  Until then, get out and enjoy the false-spring.

The Lower Sac is fishing well downriver from Redding.   It’s been tougher fishing in town. 10-15 hook-ups is a good day up there right now.  Downriver, it’s not uncommon to have 40 hooked fish during a day float.

I’m thankful that I have the opportunity to stand alone, knee deep in a rushing river, waving a long rod around - like in the pic below.
Fishing and solitude pair well together.
And I’m an only child….I don’t play well with others.

So I guess it’s pretty good overall right now.  Bob G. and Bob G. hooked at least 40 fish on my last float trip down the ‘Sac.  We had an active day to say the least.

Alaska is just a memory now… but a good one.
